Passed away Tuesday Dec 17th, 2013 at the age of 78 at the Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlisle. Family will be accepting visitors from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Burial with military honors will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa. Dan was born November 15, 1935 in Ft Dodge, Iowa to Cyril and Celestine(Condon) Hood.
Dan married Jeanann in the summer of 1958, later divorced. Dan married Sheree Swain in 1989. Dan was raised in Davenport, Iowa and graduated from St Ambrose Academy. Dan proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1953-1957. Dan worked as a ceramic tile setter, retired due to health reasons and went to work for J.I. Case and retired in 1987. Dan belonged to the United Auto Workers and is a member of the Carlisle VFW #2099 and he attended St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Carlisle, Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Sheree of Carlisle; sons, Larry(Angie) Hood of Atlanta, Georgia and David(Dora) Hood of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Debbie Hood of Davenport, Iowa; step-children, Sherry Lynn Bruxvoort and Steve Swain and family; sister, Katherine Meenan; brother James Hood and grandsons, Derek and Matt Hood. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Ott and Margaret Rodgers; brother in law, Robert Ott; brother in law, Robert Meenan and grandson Josh hood. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice in Dan's name.
